EDITOR,
Almost as disturbing as the publication of the photograph of a blood-spattered cardboard box in the report on the Felton murder was the editor’s explanation for its presence (Editor’s Note, Page 6, March 12).
He mentions that any passer-by could have seen this. But, other than the morbidly curious and a few random pedestrians, who would have chosen to do so? He also mentions that there is no mathematical equation to, in essence, determine what is printable and what isn’t. True enough, but the existence of the First Amendment does not preclude the occasional use of sensitivity, good manners and, yes, good taste. And, while the equation may not be mathematically precise, it should be fairly easy to use one’s discretion in a case like this.
A small newspaper should serve its community first and foremost, and not try to compete with the New York Post.
