EDITOR,
In light of the recent opening of a tobacco shop in Victor Square Plaza, recent comments by Scotts Valley Police Chief John Weiss are plainly ridiculous.
As quoted in the Dec. 24 issue of the Press Banner, Weiss said, in regards to a medical marijuana dispensary, “There’s more than one venue for people who need medical marijuana to get it in the area.” With that in philosophy in mind, why have a tobacco shop open up, when there are about a half-dozen places to get tobacco products on Scotts Valley Drive alone?
How many stores, shops and gas stations already sell cigarettes in Scotts Valley?
Apparently, not enough.
If you are the police chief, it’s fine to have pause to not want a marijuana dispensary open up (for a product that many municipalities today just don’t worry about prosecuting beyond a fine when people are found with minimal, “personal” amounts).
However, perhaps a better line of reasoning is in order for the future.
