The Pacific Collegiate School boys volleyball team proved too much for Scotts Valley High School who fell in three straight games 25-8, 25-13, 25-4 on April 10 at Scotts Valley High.
The Pumas came at the Falcons from every direction and found success in almost every area of their game.
Game one set the tempo as the PCS team (12-2, 7-1 in league play) handled everything the Scotts Valley boys could throw at them.
“They are one of the best teams in the area and it shows,” Falcon Head Coach Trevor Craig said. “We are young and raw and our game hasn’t come together at that level yet. But we will get there.”
The Falcons have just three upperclassmen on their 14-man squad of whom only two had played volleyball before this season.
“They will definitely be a team to worry about in the future,” said Puma Head Coach Lina Manley. “They have a ton of undeveloped talent here.”
The Pumas looked like a well-oiled machine making big kills and blocks as they let very few balls hit the floor on their side of the net.
In game two the Falcons found some recourse and put some much-needed points on the board but their efforts fell short as the pumas then roared ahead 25-13.
For the Falcons Trent Stevens and Noah Carl had big hits and outside hitters Ryan Rodriguez and Collin McCann played well.
The final game started off at a 2-2 tie in the opening minutes but actually required less effort on the part of PCS who needed only three servers to finish the entire game.
“Yeah, we are a young team and we let them get into our heads a little bit, but I saw a lot of improvement even from our first match against this team,” said Craig. “All we can do is try to improve every day and these kids are doing that.”
The Falcons (0-7) play Santa Cruz on April 12 after press time and again at 6:30 p.m. at Harbor on Tuesday April 17.
