EDITOR,
The faux war on Christmas, a holiday tradition presented by Fox News, has become a war on those who say Happy Holidays. I’ve been saying “Happy Holidays” long before there was a Fox News. When recently letting in friends into my house for a visit, I said Happy Holidays and was accused of being anti-Christian, and anti-Christmas, as if I somehow denigrated the birth of America’s most popular messiah and our favorite holiday. It’s worth remembering that Christmas has as much to do with Winter Solstice traditions as it does the birth of Christ (theologians and historians agree Jesus was not born in December, but most likely late summer or early fall). Somewhere in heaven, God and his Son are shaking their heads in disbelief over how easy it is to divide Americans and turn them against each other, even during a season that celebrates love, peace and togetherness. Happy Holidays.
