Every 9 minutes in the United States a family experiences a fetal or early infant loss. On April 11, 2011, Katrina and Matt DeWolf became one of those families when their first-born daughter was stillborn. The day before their daughter Aurelia’s funeral, Matt DeWolf completed a memorial video.
The DeWolf’s — who recently moved to Scotts Valley — found that sharing the video with their friends and family helped them cope with their loss and begin the healing process.
Katrina and Matt decided to found Aurelia Rose Inc. in May 2011 to honor their daughter and support families that have experienced similar tragedies.
Aurelia Rose Inc. is a non-profit organization that makes personalized videos that capture a family’s journey with their child. Family members submit photos, video clips and poems, and the DeWolf’s make a keepsake video.
Together, the couple has made 18 videos for families who experienced a fetal or early infant loss, Matt DeWolf said, and have reached families in 10 different states.
“I think anytime someone goes through a tragedy, they try to find reason,” he said. “It has helped us find reasons for what we’ve been through and allowed us to provide comfort to people who are experiencing similar loss.”
To help raise funds for the organization, the DeWolf’s will host a Super Bowl Crab Feed with raffles and a silent auction on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Scotts Valley Community Center.
Tickets are $40 and must be pre-ordered on the organization’s website, Matt Dewolf said. Children 10-and-under will be admitted for free and only 150 tickets will be sold.
The crab feed will be at the Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road and doors will open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6.
The menu includes salad, garlic bread and all-you-can-eat Dungeness crab.
Prizes and raffle items include donations from more than 25 local businesses including gift certificates, gift baskets and wine. All proceeds will directly benefit Aurelia Rose Inc.
