Kiwanis of the Valleys
It is a busy time for the Kiwanis. During upcoming end-of-year graduation ceremonies, club representatives will be awarding scholarships to winners at both Scotts Valley High School (the Mike Smith Scholarship), and Pacific Collegiate (the Joe Grabill Scholarship). In addition, the annual Kiwanis Citizenship Award will be awarded at SVHS, and the most improved student awards will be presented at Scotts Valley Middle School.
Planning for this season’s kick-off Music at Skypark concert is underway, and volunteer help is welcome. During the month of May, the club welcomed our newest member, Mike Rein. We set up tents for the Santa Cruz Symphony Kentucky Derby fundraiser. Members also performed clean up on our section of Highway 17.
Kiwanis of the Valleys meets every Wednesday at Bruno’s BBQ. Meetings are at 7 a.m., with the exception of the second Wednesday of each month, which is a 6:30 p.m. meeting at Bruno’s. 
Valley Women’s Club   
Of course the big news is the Redwood Mountain Faire, May 31 and June 1, at Roaring Camp in Felton. Bring family and friends both days, for a wonderful weekend, and remember, Rain or Shine the Faire is Fine since there is a great plan in place in case, but we know the weather will be perfect!
With 22 amazing bands on two stages, you will want to come by 10:30 to park ($5) and get in before the music starts at 11. The juried arts and crafts are wonderful and amazing array of intriguing, creative and beautiful items. The children’s activities are a fair within the faire —special music, performers, and great crafts activities. There will be great food and amazing beers from Boulder Creek and Santa Cruz Mountain breweries, plus excellent wines from Hallcrest, Organic Wine Works, and Zayante Vineyards, and new this year three organic hard ciders to enjoy.
Please, leave your pets at home; they are not allowed. And remember, no outside beverages, either, since our ABC permit for alcoholic beverage sales doesn’t permit them. Discounted tickets are also on sale at Scarborough in Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond and at the Mt. Hermon Ave. store in Scotts Valley. Liberty Bank in Felton also has tickets for sale. Nineteen nonprofits will benefit thanks to more than 350 volunteers helping run the faire.
You can support scholarships for SLV High graduates planning to attend Cabrillo College by shopping at the VWC’s famous annual yard sale, taking place on Saturday, June 14, at the corner of Highway 9 at Flat Street, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You are urged to donate items to the sale too, beginning Saturday, May 31. For details, call Hilary Stanley, 338-2247, to schedule a drop off time between May 31 and June 13. Be sure to ask your friends to gather their best rummage, too!
Later in the month, the VWC has a booth at The Garden Faire, June 20, in Scotts Valley  with focus on water-wise gardening and organic methods  a great event for everyone to enjoy while learning.

Scotts Valley Host Lions Club
Scotts Valley Host Lions Club is a volunteer organization focused on sight and hearing causes. We also help the local community address their needs through hands-on projects and activities -and have fun doing it! Join us on the second Tuesday of the month for a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. and on the fourth Tuesday morning  at 7 a.m. at Scotts Valley Senior Center
Scotts Valley Rotary Club
The Scotts Valley Rotary Club held its first Luau at Hotel Paradox. Live Hawaiian music and Hula dancers were just a couple of the highlights of the evening. There was a special auction item that raised $3,000 for school supplies for Scotts Valley Middle School. The club also held their annual Student Achievement Awards Dinner at the Scotts Valley Hilton where many deserving students were awarded scholarships. The club was able to raise $1,295 for Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio in the world. Several club members helped with the SV Middle School beautification day. A new project is in the works called The House of Blessings, which will benefit area residents.
