Donna Lind has been faithfully serving ScottsValley for 47 years. Beginning as the City Hall Secretary when she was a young girl, she transferred to the Scotts Valley Police Department. Even though she transferred to the SVPD, she continued to take minutes for the City Council and the Planning Commission meetings for several more years.
Her impressive career in the SVPD included her service as a police officer, then juvenile officer, detective and finally a police sergeant until she retired in 2006. After retirement, she served as a reserve officer (volunteer police officer for two more years).
In 2008, she was elected to the Scotts Valley City Council. For the past seven years, Lind has served on the City Council and was mayor four years ago.
About her continued service, Lind said, “As I accept the position of mayor, my goals are to continue the good work done by Mayor Bustichi in working on economic recovery from the severe economic downturn our City suffered a few years ago.” She explained that the City has worked with a minimum number of employees during the economic downturn with positions frozen and employees responsible for multiple jobs.
“This has been difficult,” said Lind, “I plan to continue working on economic growth in hopes of reinstating frozen positions to improve staffing to be better able to address the needs of the community.”
“I also serve on the Water Subcommittee and the Santa Margarita Groundwater Advisory Board and am very aware of the effects of years of drought. I intend to continue our work on water conservation and environment protection.”
Lind is concerned about the danger and impact on our community with predictions of heavy El Niño storms and so she continues to work with the Public Works and Police Department to prepare for expected storms. She hosted the Emergency Preparedness Workshop held on December 8 for our community and the San LorenzoValley.
“Having spent so many years with Scotts Valley Police Department, I have worked during past major storms and the earthquake and have experience in emergency preparedness and working in partnership with various neighboring agencies,” said Lind.
Welcome, Mayor Lind. Thank you for continuing your needed service to the ScottsValley community.
