Grab your tutus and get en pointe for Agape Dance Academy’s dual renditions of the seasonal favorite, “The Nutcracker.”
Under the leadership of Agape’s Melanie Useldinger, there will be two versions of the classic ballet for the community: one petite rendition will be performed at Scotts Valley Community Theater on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 10am and noon, and the traditional, full-length show will be featured at Cabrillo College’s Crocker Theater on Dec. 20 and 21.
This petite “Nutcracker” brings a storybook first act where Clara and the Staulbaum family have a Christmas party at their house, and Clara is given the special Nutcracker doll from her mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer.
As Clara sleeps that night, we are transported with her through her dreams of dancing with a real-life Nutcracker, fighting with a Mouse Queen and ushered on a spectacular sleigh into the beautiful land of the Snowflakes and then onto the Candy Kingdom. There, we meet the sweets in dances, including Spanish Chocolate, Ribbon Candy, Chinese Tea, Arabian Coffee and more in dazzling costumes, stunning choreography and beautiful sets.
“The vision for this local, petite production of ‘The Nutcracker’ is a brilliant rendition of the beloved holiday classic, especially created for young families. It features a shortened length and affordable ticket prices compared to the full-length version,” Useldinger said.
In addition, the Scotts Valley rendition includes an interactive lobby experience where children can meet the dancers, learn a few steps, get pictures with Clara on her magnificent sleigh and sip on hot cocoa with friends and family.
