USPS Plans Single Daily Pickup
Regarding David Erickson’s letter in the Aug. 7 Press Banner (“Scotts Valley PO Mail Delays Draw Concern”):
USPS is in the process of implementing a plan to eliminate all but one daily pickup (Monday through Saturday) from all post offices that are more than approximately 50 miles from the nearest major distribution facility. (For Santa Cruz County, that’s San Francisco.)
The only pickup will be (in Santa Cruz County already is) via the truck that delivers mail to our local post offices early in the morning. There are only 60 of these major distribution facilities in the entire country. Accordingly, USPS is expecting to save many millions of dollars.
Having written to Congressman Panetta’s office about this, I am now awaiting a reply.
