RE: Shout-Out for Soccer Coach Dave Okrant
With the beginning of the high school soccer season, I would like to give a big shout-out to long time SLVHS Boys Soccer Varsity Coach Dave Okrant, who retired just before the start of this season.
Dave was head coach for many years, and was a true advocate for soccer and a wonderful mentor for our players. He provided soccer activities year-round at the high school, not only for current SLVHS students – boys and girls, but for alumni and parents too. He even paid the required insurance fees himself for use of the turf field so scrimmages could go ahead.
During the season he would feed the players peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches in the school parking lot before traveling to away games, and always made sure every player truly felt part of the team.
Luckily, Dave is not quitting youth soccer, but is now the President of the SLVHS Soccer Club and I’m sure will remain devoted to getting our kids to play soccer for years to come.
Thanks, Dave, for your years at SLVHS!
