EDITOR,
In response to the most recent article dated Jan. 7 regarding the new teen gaming program offered at the Boulder Creek Branch Library (“Teen gamers find space at the library,” Page 2), I would like to respond to an online comment regarding services for teens at the Boulder Creek Recreation District.
Offering appropriate teen programs is an important issue in every community. It takes a number of agencies and service organizations to fulfill the need of keeping teens’ free time occupied. I am so pleased to see the library offering something that the kids are responding to and are excited about.
At the Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District, we respond to what the teens are interesting in doing. Currently, open gym is offered twice during the week and monthly movies. This summer, we will be offering a junior volunteer program that focuses on job and skill training while working in our youth camps. In addition, we will continue to collaborate with local agencies to develop useful programs and offer appropriate resources for teens.
Christina Horvat, district manager, Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District
Editor’s note: Open gym hours are from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 3 to 5 p.m. Fridays.
