EDITOR,
I want to compliment the forward thinking of the Scotts Valley City Council in approving scooters at the skateboard park. Kids need more healthy outdoor exercise, and the City Council reached out to another group of youths. What is also needed is a bike park in the city of SV, as well. A bike park is a short course of perhaps 200 yards or more with rollers (large speed bumps) and banked turns in a very compact area. It’s constructed entirely of dirt and can be built with volunteer labor and donated material, as was done in Aptos, so it would cost taxpayers nothing. Currently, local families have to drive either to Aptos or to Cupertino to use those facilities, and many do. Less than an acre of land would be required to build a bike park. It can be at a temporary location, as well, as large earth-moving equipment required to prepare a site for a building development would be grading the site anyway. There are many little kids, as well as big kids, who would love to have a local bike park located in Scotts Valley. Bike parks are springing up all over the country, and I think a bike park would it would be a welcome addition to Scotts Valley. If you agree, contact the Scotts Valley mayor and City Council.
