I’m always surprised when a longtime local says, “Huh?” at the mention of the Lockheed-Martin facility up on the Ben Lomond Mountain ridge above Boulder Creek. But even those of us who are aware of it tend to forget about the world’s largest defense contractor in our midst.

Martial arts instructor Elliot Stone was at Scotts Valley High School nearly all day Tuesday showing P.E. students how to defend themselves if they are ever attacked, and even better, how to avoid the situation all together.

Last season the Mount Madonna boy’s volleyball team fell in the league finals to San Lorenzo Valley High School, losing their shot at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League title. This year the Hawks earned their revenge on the Cougars beating them 25-17, 25-23, 25-21 to capture the league tournament. The game was played May 6 at Aptos High.
