Scotts Valley Rotary Club provided 43 students from Scotts Valley middle and high schools with a certificate of recognition award for outstanding academics, visual and performing arts and community service at a recent awards ceremony at Regeneration Church.
The club also provided six college scholarships to seniors who attend Scotts Valley High or who live in Scotts Valley.
Scotts Valley Middle School Award recipients: Outstanding Academic Achievement – Marta Nayder Camilo, Jolene Qian, Vivian Chomentowski, Malcom D’Ewart, Naya Mas, Kara Saiki, Juana Gómez Villafañe, Julianne Nivelle, Colin Johnston, Brooke Lesniak, Brandon Kong, Maya Samper Paton, Natalia Warner, Sophia Copley and Adeline Bazeghi; Dudley Mikesell Community Service Award – Rebecca Ervine; Performing Arts Award – Oliver Jucaraz; and Visual Arts Award – Daisy Shedlarski.
Scotts Valley High School Award recipients: Outstanding Academic Achievement – Zicheng Zeng, Hailey Shehorn, Hanna Shehorn, Walt D’Ewart, Nicholas Acton, Benjamin Acton, Molly Clark, Toka Mohamed, Riya Kuriakose, Lincoln Verinsky, Samantha Rebbert, Dylan Turzak, Claire Skinner, Ella Webb, Ashley Haver, Prathik Kurella, Alexandra Morairty, Ava Kieffer, Namiko Miller, Emma Howell, Annie Gowing and Isabella Alvarez; Dudley Mikesell Community Service Award – Aiden Fay; Performing Arts Award for Drama – Sydney Clark; Performing Arts Award for Music – Kavin Pugazhenthi; and Visual Arts Award – Jaeden Chamberlain.
High School Senior Scholarship recipients: Yoselin Arenas Carranco of Santa Cruz High School; and Maya Bensen, Sofia Guimaraes, Emma Howell, Hanna Karam and Bali Welch of Scotts Valley High School.
The recognition ceremony is the signature project of the Scotts Valley Rotary Club, which focuses on the avenue of youth service, in alignment with the service avenues established by Rotary International.
The April 22 ceremony was coordinated with Scotts Valley Middle School and Scotts Valley High School, led by Rotarians Carrie Birkhofer and Susan Riddle. Scholarship recipients were selected by the Student Awards Committee. Committee members include: Ron Sekkel, Marc Winquist and Randy Klein.
Scotts Valley Rotary has been recognizing students for over 30 years with proceeds from the Club’s endowment, grants and individual donations. The Club thanks The Ow Family, for their donation to help fund the 2024 scholarships, and Bay Federal Credit Union for being a major sponsor.
