Under clear and sunny skies, the Scotts Valley Skypark neighborhood once again celebrated the Fourth of July with the annual Independence Day Kids Bike Parade. A festive crowd of 70 people attended as kids and bikes were led in the parade by first year Scotts Valley Police Chief Jayson Rutherford driving the department’s classic cruiser. The parade was accompanied by an escort from a Scotts Valley Fire Department engine and the battalion chief’s vehicle, a SVPD motorcycle and a squad car. The parade hosted repeat guests, Scotts Valley Mayor Donna Lind and Vice Mayor Steve Clark, who mingled with the crowd and discussed the City of Scotts Valley’s 60th anniversary. Police and fire personnel capped the event by passing out stickers and kid-sized firefighter helmets before heading toward the main Scotts Valley city parade.
