The San Lorenzo Valley High softball team’s amazing season was capped off with a league title and a trip to the Central Coast Section playoffs.

The Cougars (17-8, 10-2) defeated Soquel High in the regular season’s finale, helping them capture at least a share of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League championship with the Knights.

Leading the way in the circle for SLV was junior Amelia Sizemore, who started most of this year’s games as the team’s ace pitcher. Her ability to fool batters with a curveball or get a batter to hit the ball right where she knows her defense can pick it for the out was fun to watch in person.

SCCAL coaches also recognized her skills on the field, naming her the league’s Pitcher of the Year.

SLV junior Bella Reynolds and sophomore Alyssa Struthers were named to the All-SCCAL First Team.

Scotts Valley High (7-13, 2-8) had a nice late surge with three-straight wins and a trip to the SCCAL tournament final against Soquel to finish the season.

Scotts Valley senior Kayla Brown and freshmen Gracie Delgado and Taylor Wilson earned all-league first-team honors for their skills out on the field.

All-SCCAL Second Team selections include SLV freshman Angie Fulkerson, senior Erika Kindred and sophomore Olivia Renouf.

Scotts Valley senior Kylie Alvarez, sophomore Taylor Ezgar and senior Alysa Harrington were also named to the all-league second team.

SLV senior Jersey Collins, sophomore Alison Reger and junior Anaya Sutcliffe earned honorable mention. Scotts Valley freshmen Jazzy Doubek and Abby Howell and senior Kristin Powell earned honorable mentions.
