Cougars softball falls in second round of playoffs

Several Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley High School athletes have qualified for the Central Coast Section finals Friday, May 28, at Gilroy High School after competing at the semifinal meet last weekend.

Of the almost 200,000 Major League Baseball games played over 134 years, only 19 games have been perfect, in which no member of one team reached base for any reason. The trick is a rarity in Little League, as well, as just one walk or fielding error would ruin a pitcher’s ultimate accomplishment.

The San Lorenzo Valley varsity softball team defeated Live Oak High School of Morgan Hill, 2-1, in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs Wednesday, May 19.

Waylon Prather and Harlan Prather are well-known names in Santa Cruz County. The San Lorenzo Valley High graduates — Waylon in 2003 and Harlan in 2006 — both went on to illustrious football careers in college, and Waylon is trying to sign with an NFL team as a punter.

In Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League's first ever lacrosse playoffs, the San Lorenzo Valley High team suffered a 14-0 loss to Aptos High in the semifinal round.
