Bechtel catches fire at Dad’s Club

San Lorenzo Valley High junior Blake Bechtel sank five three pointers and scored 39 points in leading the Cougars to the consolation championship over Watsonville, 74-53, in the 54th annual Dad’s Club tournament at the Civic Auditorium in Santa Cruz last weekend.

Locals well represented on all-league lists

The All-Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League teams have been announced, and a host of Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley athletes were honored by coaches.

The San Lorenzo Valley varsity boys basketball team opened practice Monday night, Dec. 7, by running more than a dozen suicides — sprints from baseline to free-throw line, half court, the opposite free-throw line and the opposite baseline. In between suicides, the varsity team shot free throws.
