San Lorenzo Valley Little League held its annual Opening Day celebration on Saturday, March 10. Highlights of the ceremony included key note speaker Sam Robustelli's speech and a breathtaking performance of the "Star-Spangled Banner" by sisters Sydney and Naomi Gorham. A-ball player Joshua Rudrow threw the first pitch directly into the glove of San Jose' Giants' mascot Gigante' and one lucky family won four tickets to see the San Francisco Giants play.
San Lorenzo Valley High senior Ben Landauer went 1-2 overall and was eliminated in the first round during his appearance at the California Interscholastic Federation wrestling championship Friday, March 2.
The pressure was on the Scotts Valley Falcons after losing five straight games heading into the Central Coast Section playoffs. The school had only seen post season action two other times and both resulted in blowout losses.

Senior captain Jordin Carlson was crowned the Most Valuable Player in the SCCAL for her outstanding play as a defender for the Falcons stingy defense.
Five wrestlers from Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley high schools won individual league titles during the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League finals at Santa Cruz High School on February 17. In the team competition, Aptos won the meet with 241 points, followed by Scotts Valley with 146 points. SLV took fourth with 122.5 points.
