SVMS volleyball wins league tournament
The sixth grade volleyball team from Scotts Valley Middle School soared past 3 strong teams during the playoff tournament on March 3, 4 and 5, Scotts Valley’s 6th grade team defeated Good Shepherd, San Lorenzo Valley and finally New Brighton Middle School in the finals.
Team members include: Sjea Anderson, Jianna Andrews, Kaylee Craft, Natalie Endres, Marissa Espinola, Ava Glassey, Gabby Gomez, Laney Johnson, Sara Johnson, Vineha Ramesh, Emma Turner and Sydney Underwood.
In a separate accomplishment, the seventh grade team won their league title outright for the Dolphins.
Maxwell again builds momentum
San Lorenzo Valley High freshman Anna Maxwell ran the 1600 meters in 5 minutes, 11.03 seconds to set the girl’s season best in the Central Coast Section at the K-Bell Invitational track meet on March 12 in Los Gatos. Cameron Kellogg took third in the discus with a toss of 103 feet, 9 inches while Nick Hicks took fourth place in the 3200 meter run in 9:46.67. Also, Cody Johnson set a personal record in the 1600 with a time of 4:27.96 finishing in seventh place.
Scotts Valley Baseball
The Scotts Valley baseball team is 4-2-1 after Abe Alvarez went 5-for-6 at the plate hitting two big doubles and two RBIs as they went on to beat visiting King’s Academy 18-13 in a preseason play on March 11. Trevor Arriola went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the Falcons and teammate Matt Snider also went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run, and four RBIs. The Falcons winning pitcher was Brenny Hillan.
San Lorenzo Valley Baseball
The Cougars (1-0 in SCCAL play, 3-4 overall) rallied behind pitcher Nick Lipperd and SLV beat the defending league champions Scotts Valley 5-2 on March 15.
Lipperd went 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run and a two RBI single. Billy Mullins went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run. Lipperd pitched five innings with five strikeouts and one walk allowing two runs. Scotts Valley drops to 0-1 in league play, 4-3-1 overall.
