For the second consecutive year, Baymonte Christian School will hold its annual Tech-Trek 5-kilometer run and 1-kilometer fun run to raise money for technology at the school.
The school’s biggest fundraiser will bring in moneys to help upgrade technology in the classroom with “Smart Boards” and Apple laptop computers. The school will also send teachers to education integration seminars put on by Apple over the Thanksgiving break.
“After last years success we have diverted all out fundraising attention toward the Tech-Trek,” Principal Steve Patterson said. “It has replaced our annual magazine drive and really driven all proceeds back to the school and well past all our expectations.”
Last year, the first annual Tech Trek featured 300 runners. The number of runners should exceed that number in this year’s race according to Patterson.
The 1-kilometer fun run begins at 8 a.m. followed by the 5-kilometer race at 8:30 a.m.
The course has changed slightly this year. Runners will start at the beginning of South Navarra Road and run past a band playing at New Hope Church, which will sponsor a water booth.
The mostly-flat course winds gently through South Navarra Road and Green Hills Road before turning around on Green Hills and back again. It will finish on the Baymonte campus.
Runners can sign up online via www.baymonte.org or www.eventbrite.com. Registration is $25 for adults in the 5-kilometer and $15 for kids in the 1-kilometer run. There are special rates for Baymonte students.
