Boulder Creek native graduates from culinary school
Boulder Creek native Blythe Robinson, 21, graduated with a Bachelor’s of Professional Service in Culinary Arts Management with honors from the Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park, N.Y.
Robinson also received the President’s Humanities Award and was recognized for her perfect attendance over all eight semesters.
She was president of Boulder Creek 4-H chapter for two terms and also held the office of club liaison. She graduated from Stevenson High School in Carmel in 2008. She has volunteered as a trainee cook at the Homeless Services Center in Santa Cruz and worked as a prep cook at the Getty Center in Los Angeles.
Felton student interviewed on NPR
Kahlo Smith, 11, a Felton resident and sixth-grader attending the Nature Academy program, made an appearance on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” on March 17, and was interviewed by the show’s host, Guy Raz.
She had emailed the show the week before regarding their “3 Minute Fiction Contest,” which had a requirement that entrants be 18 years of age or older.
Raz then asked her to send in her story and invited her to be interviewed.
A portion of her short story was read on-air by NPR icon Susan Stamberg.
SV High senior awarded ag scholarship
Kevin Bargetto, a senior at Scotts Valley High School, was recently named by Agri-Culture as the winner of its Jimmie Cox Memorial Scholarship for 2012.
The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in agriculture. Bargetto plans to enter California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in the fall.
Bargetto’s plans to study enology and viticulture and hopes to return to his family business, Bargetto Winery.
The $4,000 scholarship is a combined offering from American AgCredit and Agri-Culture.
He was presented the scholarship at the National Ag Day Spring luncheon on March 21 at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
SV High alumna makes dean’s list
Alexandra Ayers, a 2011 graduate of Scotts Valley High School, has made the Dean’s List for the fall 2011 semester at Azusa Pacific University in Southern California.
She is the daughter of Michael and Sheryl Ayers, and is majoring in biology and chemistry.
