Marilyn Brownton (Miles) Straw: June 8, 1949 to Jan. 1, 2013

A celebration of life will be held in Scotts Valley on Sunday, June 2 to honor the life of Marilyn Brownton (Miles) Straw who died at home surrounded by friends and family following a year-long battle with lung cancer. She was 63.
A Bay Area native, Mrs. Straw was the daughter of the late William and Virginia DeVore Brownton. She received her early education in Willow Glen before completing undergraduate work at University of California, Berkeley in 1971. She also received a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from San Jose State University in 1992. Mrs. Straw’s work life included time at Yosemite and Granite Construction in Watsonville. She then retired to San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico with her husband Jim.
She is survived by her husband; daughters Mandy Straw, Tammy Straw-Dunn and her husband Adam, Sadie Sanders and her husband Seth; brother Glenn Brownton and his wife Mary Counihan; a granddaughter and many other extended family and friends. 
A public celebration of Mrs. Straw’s life will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at The Mint, 4652 Scotts Valley Drive, in Scotts Valley. Family and friends will gather informally to share memories. Casual dress is suggested. The family can be contacted at [email protected].
