Ben Lomond chiropractor Jeanne Hofvendahl is celebrating her 20thyear in the San Lorenzo Valley as a practicing chiropractor.
She also employs massage therapy and physical therapy techniques to help people maintain what she calls a sustainable lifestyle.
“Part of what I do is to teach people to take care of themselves so they don’t get injured,” she said.
Hofvendahl moved to the San Lorenzo Valley three decades ago and was trained at Palmer Chiropractic College in San Jose before starting to practice in SLV.
“The redwoods are magical and peaceful,” she said. “I really love the small-town feel. I love seeing everybody at the grocery store or the post office.”
For most of her career, Hofvendahl shared an office in Ben Lomond with other chiropractors. But two years ago she opened her own office, Ben Lomond Integrated Chiropractic and Massage Therapy at 10090, Ste. 6 in an office complex on Highway 9 in Ben Lomond.
The mother of three boys, two of which have graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School, Hofvendahl works with patients of all ages. She said she loves working on pregnant women and children, with both massage and chiropractic work.
“Massage is not a treat, it has health benefits,” she said. “Especially for the elderly, getting that circulation going is very important.”
Jeff Anderson of Boulder Creek has been visiting Hofvendahl for the past four months to relieve pain from ten back surgeries.
“She doesn’t just work on you,” he said. “She talks to you and works on the areas that are hurting that day. She pinpoints those areas and works on them.”
Anderson said the combination of massage and chiropractic treatment helps him avoid using narcotics to battle pain.
Additionally, he said, Hofvendahl has referred him to a network of practitioners, including an acupuncturist who does a good job.
