San Lorenzo Valley Water District and State Assembly Candidate Forum
A forum for the candidates of the San Lorenzo Valley Water District and the State Assembly is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The audience will be allowed to ask the candidates questions and get to know the candidates’ views and qualifications.
The forum will take place at the San Lorenzo Valley Elementary School’s Multi-purpose Room, located at 7155 Highway 9 in Felton.
The forum is organized by the Valley Women’s Club and is co-sponsored by The League of Women Voters, the Boulder Creek and Felton business associations, and the SLV Chamber of Commerce.

Aguilar named first vice president of League of California Cities
Scotts Valley City Councilwoman Stephany Aguilar was installed as the first vice president of the League of California Cities on Sept. 5.
Aguilar was installed during the League’s 116th Annual Conference and Expo in Los Angeles.
She will serve a one-year term as first vice president before advancing to the office of president in September 2015.
Aguilar was first elected to the Scotts Valley City Council in 1996 and has served three terms as mayor.

Annual e-waste collection event returns to SV
The City of Scotts Valley will hold its 12th annual e-waste collection event on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Last year’s event collected approximately 20,000 pounds of electronics from nearly 300 participants.
Electronics such as computers, monitors, and television sets are prohibited from being disposed of in landfills due to hazardous material content.
The event will be held on Erba Lane, across from the Scotts Valley Fire District station.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Scotts Valley recycling programs and Rotary community programs.

Air District to conduct survey of backyard burning
The Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District announced that it is seeking participants to take an online survey regarding the issue of backyard burning.
The survey is open to residents of Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito counties.
The Air District has made headlines in recent years in Santa Cruz County, particularly in the “Smoke Sensitive Area”-designated San Lorenzo Valley as it has placed strict restrictions on permitted outdoor burns.
