The Scotts Valley High Falcons celebrated their homecoming in style Friday, Oct. 16, as they rolled up a lopsided 51-7 victory against Harbor High despite taking virtually all of their starters out of the game by the end of the second quarter.
Receiver Aldin Barrett racked up the biggest numbers of the night, catching touchdown passes of 80, 36 and 33 yards in the second quarter en route to 210 receiving yards on the evening.
Jake Bergman had two touchdowns, one on a 5-yard run and the other on an 80-yard kickoff return; Luke Pollok scored on a 1-yard run; and Ryan Estrada scored on a 46-yard reverse.
Estrada finished with 119 yards rushing and receiving, and quarterback Blake Jurich was 10-for-16 for 272 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
In addition to the explosive performance of his main standouts, coach Louie Walters raved about the performance of the rest of the squad.
“All our kids got playing time, deserved playing time, and they all showed us something, every one of them,” he said.
Quarterback and defensive back Alex Howard was one of the many standouts, moving the offense effectively in the second half and being involved in several tackles and broken-up passes on defense.
Joe Maldonado, who played more than half of the game at nose tackle and guard, voiced a sentiment shared by many on the team.
“We played our hearts out,” he said. “I think there’s a lot of us who feel like we really did something good for the team against Harbor.”
