Scotts Valley Mayor Donna Lind has released a “State of the City” report, stating that “with hard work and community support, the city’s economy is strengthening and businesses are returning to Scotts Valley.”
Lind, who is seeking reelection to the City Council, said that in the 50 years since its founding as a city, Scotts Valley has stood the test of time and continues to be that special place we all fell in love with.”
She listed the 1440 Multiversity set to open in 2017 at the former Bethany University campus, the Lexington Hotel under construction on Scotts Valley Drive, and an extended-stay Marriott hotel to be built in 2017 near the former Borland headquarters on Santa’s Village Road as three of the city’s most important developments, because they will be a source of transit occupancy taxes.
The mayor also cited the Kaiser Permanente office to open in January and the UC Santa Cruz relocation to the former Borland headquarters, also in January 2017, as positive new developments.
“I’m encouraged by the renewed vitality around the Town Center,” she said, citing the council approval of the sale of the former Suburban Propane property for development of a restaurant, plus renewed plans to develop a Town Center commercial/residential project.
“As we look forward to Scotts Valley’s next 50 years, I am particularly excited about highly qualified and capable new City Manager with deep roots in Scotts Valley – Jenny Haruyama,” Lind said. “Her extensive experience in local government is an asset, especially as we continue work for the City’s General Plan Update process.”
“I’m confident in the city’s ability to grow its tax base so that we can maintain our small-town character and quality of life for the residents of Scotts Valley,” she concluded.
