A house fire that gutted a duplex at 12560 Highway 9 in Boulder Creek this afternoon was deemed “under control” by firefighters at 2:40 p.m.
The fire was reported at 1:17 p.m. and crews from the Boulder Creek Fire Protection District rushed to the scene. It wasn’t long before smoke and fire was seen pouring out of the downstairs windows of the duplex and licking the sky above the roof.
At least 8 people were home at the time and all made it safely out. A firefighter even pulled an albino python from the blaze and returned it to the woman owner.
The American Red Cross announced that it will be helping with food, clothing, shoes, counseling and medical assistance with prescription medicine for the eight people who lived in the duplex. One family will require assistance with emergency housing. Donations can be made at www.ARCmontereybay.org
