Artist Bailey Rios has been named the San Lorenzo Valley Museum’s 2024 Artist-in-Residence.
Rios is an oil painter, born in Walnut Creek, Calif., in 2002. He received his BA in studio art from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2024. Throughout his undergraduate experience, he has exhibited works in the Mary Porter Sesnon Gallery, the Eduardo Carrillo Gallery and the Kenneth S. Norris Center for Natural History.
Rios has also been awarded the William Hyde and Susan Benteen Irwin Scholarship, and the Eduardo Carrillo Scholarship for excellence in his studio art practice. He currently resides and works in Santa Cruz.
Rios will be spending about six hours per week at the Grace Episcopal Gallery in Boulder Creek during the months of June and July. He will be creating a series of three oil paintings that depict the contributions of the erased lives of marginalized BIPOC workers.
In addition, Rios will present a workshop, an artist talk and an exhibition of final work created during the residency.

The Artist-in-Residence Program at the San Lorenzo Valley Museum aims to support local artists by providing them with the time and space to create a new body of work that relates to the history of the San Lorenzo Valley. The program is generously funded in-part by Arts Council Santa Cruz County.
