County of Santa Cruz Department of Parks, Open Space and Cultural Services, former District 5 Supervisor Bruce McPherson and current District 5 Supervisor Monica Martinez have announced a celebration ceremony at Miller Property County Park for the new welcome point and parking area.
The public event will take place Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 10am at the park, located at 16798 Kings Creek Road in Boulder Creek.
Miller Property County Park is a hidden gem nestled in the redwoods of Boulder Creek. Spanning over 400 acres, this park now features a recently updated formalized parking area, a new entry gate with updated signage, additional picnic tables and other new amenities throughout.
Future plans include a new loop trail and a forest management plan to balance increased access, resource protection and the need for forest health initiatives in response to climate change.
“This beautiful space is now more accessible for our community to enjoy,” Martinez said. “Miller Property County Park has always been a special place, and I’m excited to see it become part of more people’s lives.”
Miller Property plays an important role in protecting the region’s natural habitat and open space, providing habitat for first- and second-growth redwoods as well as other local flora and fauna, as well as protecting part of the Kings Creek watershed.
“The redwoods are one of our region’s greatest natural treasures, and we’re honored to do our part to protect them while making sure they can be enjoyed by all,” Parks Director Jeff Gaffney said. “County Parks aims to be good land stewards and protect our open spaces for future generations to come.”
