In baseball, a batter can wait for his pitch before taking a swing. But if he waits too long and lets three strikes go by without swinging, he’ll be called out on strikes.

Acute cystitis is the medical term for a bladder infection, and is the most common cause of what is generally known as a urinary tract infection. It affects up to 10 million Americans a year, mostly women. About 40% of women at some time during their lifetime will have a bladder infection, and many will have multiple episodes.

What would you do if you saw someone collapse and fall to the ground in front of you? Some might panic and do nothing. Some might at least call for help, and others might attempt some form of CPR.

It’s the nastiest fruit on the planet, and my mom loved to make cookies out of it.

The Olympics, I believe, have a split personality. Partly the Olympics are about the beauty of competition: the lovely narratives of individuals who triumph over overwhelming odds and exquisite examples of sportsmanship and sporting brotherhood and sisterhood. But the Olympics are also about flag-waving patriotism. I have to admit when the U.S. faces other countries, my default mode says, “Root for the ol’ Stars and Stripes.” I believe that’s why the women’s soccer tournament is more interesting and exciting for many people in this country. While the U.S. did not qualify for the men’s tournament, the US women are viewed as favorites and have done nothing to change that through the opening round.
