West Nile virus infected horse east of Watsonville

The California Department of Food and Agriculture announced confirmation of a case of West Nile virus in a horse east of Watsonville. Spread by mosquitoes, West Nile is a bird can also infect people and animals. In Santa CruzCounty, this is the first case reported in 2015.

Save Our Surf Campaign Starts 19th Year Of Supporting Clean Water and Beaches

One of Santa Cruz County’s longest-running corporate/environmental partnerships kicked off over Memorial Day weekend, with the launching of the 19th annual Save Our Surf campaign.

Editorial: Library decision could be hard to swallow

Because of a bad economy and the rise of the Internet, local leaders will almost surely decide Monday, Feb. 14, that the Felton Branch Library is no longer used enough to warrant upkeep and staff from the Santa Cruz County Public Library System. That would mean Felton’s branch would no longer be a part of the Santa Cruz County Public Library System and likely would close, unless a volunteer group stepped up to run the library, a la Ben Lomond’s downtown library.

Driver hits San Lorenzo Valley Water District Building

An elderly woman passed out and lost control of her vehicle. The car hit a trailer that was parked in front of the Boulder Creek Brewery, went up on the side walk and hit the SLVWD office building at 13060 Highway 9, Boulder Creek. The car was stopped by a no parking sign and an SLVWD truck. 

Youth football season ends

The results are in, and the Scotts Valley Police Athletic League football teams are set to complete another successful season.
