Some Republican presidential candidates say we should throw out our tax code and replace it with a much simpler system. But as one local accountant says, “Don’t hold your breath.”

Sophomore earns repeat spot in national race

Scotts Valley High School football players Collin Corbella, Robbie McClure and Joel Claassen earned high praise from football coaches in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League by earning co-player of the year honors at their respective positions.

In my November column on diabetes, I discussed the definition, symptoms, causes, risks and complications of this common disease (“Diabetes a common peril,” Page 20, Nov. 23). Today, I would like to discuss the diagnostic tests and treatments for diabetes, prevention and the impact of the disease on our society.

Christmas is right around the corner and is already filling the streets with cheerful decorations, lights and laughter. While all of this is fun, the hardest part of this time of the year can be shopping for presents for others.
