Four San Lorenzo Valley boys track and field runners qualified for the first California indoor track and field invitational, which will be Feb. 6 at Fresno State University.

The Junior Varsity baseball teams for Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley took the field Tuesday as the Cougars defeated the Falcons 6-2. The victory puts the Cougars (7-1) in first place in league while the Falcons (6-2) remain in second place.

Scotts Valley High School’s boys soccer team moved into second place in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League, after defeating Santa Cruz and Soquel high schools last week.

A swarming full-court press vaulted the Scotts Valley girls basketball team to another lopsided win, this time a 91-40 thumping of visiting Santa Cruz High on Monday night.

Each year, the Special Olympics is hosted to offer an opportunity to those with disabilities allowing them to athletically compete in the Olympic Games; this year it was hosted in New Jersey, where 3,500 participants demonstrated their strength and perseverance.

Robert Mullins slides into third base during San Lorenzo Valley High’s 8-3 non-league win Saturday, March 27, against visiting Leigh High. Mullins is batting .273 and is tied with teammate Zach Settles for the team lead with seven RBIs. The Cougars are 4-4 on the season, including a 1-2 mark in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. They will play in the Easter Tournament at Salinas High School this weekend, April 2 through 5.

Bethany University split a doubleheader against Minnesota’s St. Catherine University on Wednesday, March 31. The Bruins fell in extra innings in the first contest, 3-2, before rallying to a 9-1 victory in the second game against their non-conference foe.
