Boys hoops get underway

The Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley high school boy’s basketball teams are each looking for a winning season. Scotts Valley, which is still looking for the first winning season in school history has hired an experienced coach and SLV has a crop of young talent.

Martial artist earns seventh degree black belt

Master Yong Soon Choi of Choi’s Tae Kwan Do in Scotts Valley, has earned what only a handful of women in California have dreamed of. In June, she completed testing with her instructor and finished the written and physical requirements to be awarded her seventh dan black belt in Tae Kwan Do. The seventh dan is two steps away from the highest level of black belt.
