EDITOR,
I stopped at a grocery store in Felton. I needed to pick up a prescription related to my recent knee replacement surgery and a few other items. I was using a walker, but it was good to get out of the house where I have been recovering from surgery, especially after all the rain. I’m a longtime customer at the store and pharmacy, having lived in Felton for the past 20-plus years.
While waiting for the prescription, I was approached by a member of the store’s staff, who I have recently been told is the store manager. This person complained that my walker was scuffing and marking up the store’s floor as I walked around! The insensitivity of this person was amazing. She went so far as to question if I’d walked around the entire store, leaving a trail of scuff marks from my walker.
I am fortunate in that my disability is only temporary and I will soon be walking without any aids, but I have really developed an appreciation for those less fortunate. To literally be confronted and reprimanded by the store manager for browsing the store in my walker while waiting for my prescription to be filled is unconscionable in this day and age.
With this type of attitude, the store does not deserve the community’s patronage until their attitude changes.
