There was a time when tasting fees were rare in the Santa Cruz wine region. Most wineries were happy to pour a few tastes for guests, with the expectation that they would at the very least buy a bottle to take home for later. This unspoken method worked well for quite some time.
The first Golden Gate Salmon Association Dinner is now behind us and proved to be a great success. Coming up is the Monterey Bay Salmon Trout Project Albacore Dinner on Nov. 12 in Castroville.

It had been four months since I last raced, and the itch to commit to something had grown incessant. Following the lead of my running partner, Erin, I signed up for the Santa Cruz Mountains 21k, a trail race from Harvey West Park through Pogonip and deep into Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, with two waist-deep river crossings.
