50 years of fairways

When Boulder Creek Men’s Club was founded in 1963 with newly-built Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club as its home course, the redwood-lined links on Big Basin Highway were nine holes in length. A landing strip used by out-of-towners to fly in and golf occupied the space where the back nine stands today. Things have changed – the course was lengthened to 18 holes – but much has remained the same, including the venerable men’s club which celebrates its 50-year anniversary next weekend.

Twenty seconds behind the winner, San Lorenzo Valley's Chris Anderson (rightmost) finished third, but the Cougars won the team title, beating the second place Falcons 43-62.

Bechtel catches fire at Dad’s Club

San Lorenzo Valley High junior Blake Bechtel sank five three pointers and scored 39 points in leading the Cougars to the consolation championship over Watsonville, 74-53, in the 54th annual Dad’s Club tournament at the Civic Auditorium in Santa Cruz last weekend.
